Galle Face Green in Colombo is the largest open area in the city. The 5 hectares land is a tourist attraction in Colombo. The site lies between the Galle Road of Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean. It has become a go-to place amongst many. Photographers, teenagers, vendors, couples, and families go to this place for pastimes.

This land has hosted the world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree in 2016.

There are two large hotels at the border of this land. Galle Face Hotel is one of the oldest hotels. One can witness Prince Philip and Duke of Edinburgh’s first car in the Hotel’s museum.
Governor Sir Henry George Ward laid the initial plan for this place in 1859. The land extended wider than it is today. The military set their cannons in a line, on this land.  It was a strategic move to fire against the Portuguese. It is still fixed in the same place.
